Notes

  • From the St. Catharines Standard 1925 - A very pleasant gathering of old friends took place on Thursday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Chestney of 90 Page Street. The occasion was the 80th birthday of Mrs. Chestney and the gathering was in the nature of a surprise.

Mrs. Chestney was born in England but for nearly 50 years has been a resident of this city and district. For many years she conducted a restuarant on St. Paul Street where the St. Catharines Cafe is now situated and many of the older residents of the city will remember the excellent dinners served there in those days.

Among those present were Mrs. Taylor, Sr., Mrs. A. Zimmerman, Mrs. M. Johnson, Mrs. F.W. Carew, Mrs. Chas. Doubrough, of this city; Mrs. P.H. Wismer, Mrs. A. Rittenhouse and Mrs. R.J. VanGorder of Jordan Station; two daughters, Mrs. A.E. Paxman, Hamilton and Mrs. C. Moore, city; two granddaughters, Mrs. F. VanGorder and Mrs. H. E.Foster, Jordan Station; one greatgranddaughter, Miss Anita VanGorder, Jordan Station and Mrs. Green, Hamilton.

The floral and other presents were generous and very beautiful.
