Notes

  • 1/3/2005 Froginabog posted a note for it    [visit log]
Yesterday I recalled that Heckington not only had a graveyard, but it also had a large cemetery on the edge of the village. I was cross with myself for forgetting to check there and I was determined to rectify the mistake. Having spent the morning caching we decided to end the day by having a hunt around the cemetery.
The post 1940 graves were at the back of the cemetery and the pre 1940 graves were at the front. A lot of the pre 1940 graves were badly worn, so we could not read them. Some of the headstones also seemed to be missing. However, we managed to locate one Daubrah grave. It was for a husband and wife, named Fanny and George Daubrah. It is on the left hand side of the cemetery near the gate. The headstone was very worn. It said:

In memory of Fanny, the beloved wife of George Daubrah, who died Aug 29th 1912 aged 73 years. Also of George Daubrah who died Dec 8th 1924 aged 89 years. Thy will be done.
