Charles died at 38 (43) years of age. He was evidently killed at work, while working on the high tension lines just this side of Grimsby. The line ran between Decew Falls and Hamilton, it was part of the Hamilton, Grimsby Beamsville Railway. Owned by the Dominion Power & Transmission Company. While he was hooking up the power to a residence, others were supposed to cut the power on the line. Evidently they disconnected the wrong section and he was electrocuted on the pole. The company at that time did not pay any compensation to his wife and family. Agnes never got over the loss and she was never the same mentally since. Some of this info was from the Hamilton newspapers at that time and his son Reg.
Some records show they also lived at 106 Sherman Ave.
Charles cemetery plot # 293-1
Agnes same location.
Tape info..
Charles and Agnes bought a home in Bartonville just before he was killed, with the intention of retireing there and possibly working part time maintaining the eastern division of the DP&T company, with a phone line to his house.
At Charles's funeral his fellow workmen walked from James Street, up York with the Hearse and many carriages that were in the procession. The family all rode in one coach.
Census for 1881 indicate Charles was 8 years old at the time, which would mean he was born in 1872..
